Beech High Schools Jonathan Roberts only wrestler from Hendersonville to medal at this year’s State Wrestling Championship


Beech High School Senior Jonathan Roberts was one of thirteen young men from the Hendersonville area, eight from Hendersonville High and five from Beech High to compete at this year’s State Wrestling Competition.   Jonathan was the only wrestler to become a medalist.  Posting a 5-2 record during the three day tournament he earned fifth place.  This year’s championship was held last weekend at the Williamson Country Ag Center and sponsored by the US Marine Corps.
 
Jonathan’s competition in the State Tournament:
First match Jonathan defeated Alex Williams of Chattanooga Central by Fall 1:06
Second match Jonathan defeated Connor Rourbaugh of Knoxville Halls by Fall 3:06
Third match he lost to Holden Shay of Houston High School with a score of 18-9
Fourth Match Jonathan defeated Nathan Davis of Sale Creek with the score of 14-9
Fifth Match Jonathan defeated David Hayes of Murfreesboro Siegel with the score of 14-9
Sixth Match Jonathan lost to Matt Stull of Science Hill with the score of 5-6
Seventh match Jonathan defeated Rodney Robinson of Millington Fall 3:09

Champion
During the Region 7 individual championship Jonathan was the tournament champion in the 171 weight division.  He was also awarded the Best Wrestler honor.

Jonathan finished his senior season with the record of 54 wins and 4 losses.  This is an all time record for most wins at Beech High School in a single season.  Jonathan has also been named a member of the Mid State Dream Team which will have their banquet later in the month.  Jonathan also has been awarded a wrestling scholarship and will be attending Middle Tennessee State University this fall, making Jonathan Beech High Schools first wrestling scholarship athlete.
